Music Camp

The Salvation Army Golden State Division’s Music & Worship Arts Camp
July 2-10, 2010

We are looking forward to the upcoming Music & Worship Arts Camp. As you may have heard, our new Music & Worship Director, Beth Carvill will begin her ministry in the Golden State Division as our special guest.

We are excited about some positive changes that we hope will equip the campers with skills and tools that they can use in ministry after camp is completed. We will create an environment of learning, encouragement, and guidance both in the camper’s spiritual lives and in their music and worship arts pursuits. With that in mind, and in order to make the best use of time, campers will focus on one major and one chorus throughout the week.

The following are a few things you should know about Music & Worship Arts Camp.

Age Requirements Music & Worship Arts Camp is open to campers 9-16 years of age. Campers MUST BE 9 by the first day of Music & Worship Arts Camp (July 2nd, 2010).

Visitors/Family Members on Camp In keeping with the spirit of Camp Redwood Glen Camp 2010 summer policies, visitors will be allowed on camp during our 2 public events only. Visitors are asked to arrive to camp ¬ before the beginning of each public event.

Soloist Concert Thursday, July 8th at 7:30 PM (visitors may begin to arrive at 6:45PM) Final Concert Saturday, July 10th at 11 AM (visitors may begin to arrive at 10:15AM) Box lunches Following the final concert on Saturday, July 10th box lunches will be made available to everyone attending the concert. If you have corps members/family visiting this day who would like a boxed lunch, please let the program department know. Reservations for box lunches must be submitted to Nathan Hung no later than 12 noon on Monday, July 5th.

Potential Soloists Each year campers have the opportunity to audition for soloist night. Soloist night is meant to give your young people the opportunity to receive experience ministering through music & creative arts in front of a congregation so they in turn can come back to your corps and do the same. Each year, the campers who are chosen to minister on Soloist Night are the ones who are the most prepared with their solo. Please help your campers prepare for solo by doing the following:

Vocal & Instrumental Soloists - must come prepared with their own music, CDs, and accompaniment music if appropriate. CDs must be karaoke styled instrumental track and campers will not be allowed to sing to taped music that has original vocals.

Drama - students can audition with a prepared monologue or dramatic scripture reading

Dance/timbrel/flags - students can audition with a prepared piece and must bring any music needed /ribbons/devotion in motion

Campers are especially encouraged to come prepared with a solo that is appropriate for Music and Worship Arts Camp.
