Summer Staff Positions 2012
Redwood Glen’s camping program provides a safe environment where individuals can learn about God and His creation, develop healthy relationships, gain new skills, and have fun. This is accomplished through Biblically based program, quality staff and diverse activities.
A basic requirement for all staff positions at Camp Redwood Glen is a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Counselor: Must be at least 18 years old. Counselors are required to live with the children day and night. The proper care and leadership of youth in their spiritual, physical, social, and emotional development is vital to the mission of Camp. The counselor is the main provider in these areas. Counselors need to participate in all of the camp program areas, with their campers including: hiking, recreation, swimming, planning cabin activities and leading cabin devotional times. This person needs to have a personal Christian commitment and desire to work with children ages 7-16.
Unit Leader (2 male and 2 female): Must be at least 21 years old. The Unit Leader lends support to the counseling staff and the various programs on camp. The campers are divided up into units according to age each Unit Leader will be responsible for a unit made up of five cabin groups. This person should have camp counseling experience, demonstrate a growing faith, and be willing to lead bible study with your counselors. Patience, problem solving, strong organizational and communication skills are necessary in this position. The Unit Leader acts as the liaison between the counselors and the program director. Each Unit Leader will be asked to take the camp driving test.
Assistant Program Director: Preferably at least 21 years old. Assists program director with planning and scheduling of summer camp program. The program staff will give direction to the evening programs as well as other “all-camp” activities. Leadership skills are necessary as well as the ability and creativity to initiate and execute programs. This position requires that you be comfortable getting up in front of a crowd. This person, if 21+ years of age, will take the camp driving test.
Assistant Program Director - Recreation: Responsible to teach fun and exciting games and initiatives to the campers. Knowledge of the different developmental levels and skills of the campers is necessary to create an age appropriate recreation program. This person will work with counselors for activity time and alongside the activities director for “all-camp” games. The recreation director will also be responsible to lead an occasional evening program. Being comfortable in front of a crowd and having “loud” communication skills are helpful.
Program Lead - Archery: Must have current certification. Plan and implement a safe program to teach campers the basics of archery. The ability to chose the correct skills and equipment for the different age groups is required. This person will be required to participate in “all–camp” activities.
Program Lead — Small Animal Farm: This person is responsible to plan and implement a program to teach campers about small farm animals (goats, sheep, chickens, etc.) and gardening. Must be able to write age appropriate lessons that incorporate experiential learning. This person is required to participate in “all-camp” activities.
Program Lead— Christian Education: Preferably 21+ years old. Responsibilities include planning and implementing a daily morning chapel time for the campers and planning a spiritual element for the evening program. Also, planning and implementing staff devotions and collaborating with the Salvation Army Divisional Youth Secretary (Camp Pastor), for Sunday morning services. Must be comfortable in front of a crowd.
Program Lead— Craft: Using a variety of materials, you are responsible to maintain an exciting and interesting camp craft program. Keeping supplies and the craft house in order is important. Must have patience and the ability to teach and demonstrate age appropriate crafts. This person will help with the evening program in decorating, clean-up and all around participation.
Program Lead—Waterfront: Must be at least 21 years of age. The waterfront director is responsible for the supervision and the maintenance of the pool. It is imperative that you have knowledge in cleaning, maintaining, and treating the pool. You will plan the activities that take place at the pool. Must be advanced life saving and WSI certified. This person will be asked to take the camp driving test, so they are able to drive camp vehicles.
Program Staff—Lifeguard: Current Lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid required. The lifeguard will work under the direction of the waterfront director. Responsible for keeping the pool area clean and safe, helping in any programs held at the pool, teaching basic water/swim skills, and supervising all swim times.
Program Lead—Nature: This person is responsible to plan and implement a program to teach campers about God’s creation. An understanding of animal and outdoor safety is very important. Must be able to write age appropriate lessons that incorporate experiential learning.
Health Care Manager: At least 21 years old. Responsible for the health and safety of all persons on camp. RN, LPN, EMT, or MD is required as well as current CPR and First Aid certification. Other duties include monitoring health and safety, dispensing medications, designated first responder, and addressing any injury in a professional manner. Ability to maintain correct and accurate records is necessary. This person will be asked to take the camp driving test.
Outdoor Adventure Camp Counselor: Preferably at least 21 years old. Use God’s creation as a vehicle to create experiences where teen campers find Jesus through backpacking, small group living, and the Bible. Must be comfortable in a “rugged” setting and have the ability to hike at least 6 miles/day. Current First Aid / CPR certification is required, Wilderness First Aid strongly preferred
Outdoor Adventure Camp Director & Assistant Dir.: Must be 21 years or older.
These positions require current Wilderness First Aid / CPR certifications.
The Director position requires that you facilitate high and low ropes course elements. You must have the ability to plan and execute backcountry pack trips and posses excellent leadership skills. Previous work with teens will be essential. A lifeguard certification is required for either the director or assistant director. The Assistant Director will be required to facilitate on low and high-ropes course elements. Both positions will require that you teach and lead in the areas of safety, nature and spiritual development. Both of these people will take the camp driving test.

Proficient with different fuels for cooking, creative menu planner, and well organized. Able to use God’s creation as a vehicle to create experiences where teen campers find Jesus through backpacking, small group living, and the Bible. Must be comfortable in a “rugged” setting and have the ability to hike at least 6 miles. Current First Aid / CPR certification is required.
SURF TEAM Lead (2 positions): Preferably at least 21 years old. Responsible to lead a discipleship and training program for a group of 12—14 teens, ages 14 and 15. This position requires someone with a mature and growing faith. Demonstrated ability to connect with and disciple teens, well organized, compassionate, understanding, and able to set and maintain boundaries and expectations.
Jr. Counselor: Jr. Counselors are required to live with the children day and night and will work in support and under the direct supervision of a lead counselor. The proper care and leadership of youth in their spiritual, physical, social, and emotional development is vital to the mission of Camp. The Jr. Counselor will be in a position to learn and develop these skills. Jr. Counselors need to participate in all of the camp program areas, with their campers including: hiking, recreation, swimming, planning cabin activities and leading cabin devotional times. This person needs to have a personal Christian commitment and desire to work with children ages 7-16.

Some knowledge of basic home repair a must. You will be responsible to disciple, lead devotions, and supervise your crew. Must also take the camp driving test and possess a valid drivers license.
Maintenance Crew: Responsible for the daily operational routines of keeping camp clean and running efficiently. Building fires, basic home repair, trash runs, dish room, landscaping, etc. You will also participate in evening programs and other camp activities.
Dining Room Manager: Preferably at least 21 years old. Responsible to lead a group of 6 wait staff through the daily operational routines of keeping the Dining Room clean and running efficiently during and after all meals. You will be responsible to disciple, lead devotions, and supervise the wait staff. Must also take the camp driving test and possess a valid drivers license.
Wait Staff: Responsible for the daily operational routines of keeping the Dining Room clean and running efficiently during and after each meal. Setting the Dining Room, cleaning windows and floors, trash runs, dish room, etc. You will also participate in evening programs and other camp activities.
Prep-Cooks: Previous kitchen / cooking experience preferred Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen safety, and cleanliness is vital. Participation in camp activities will be required whenever possible. Team work and communication skills are a must.
Canteen / Cafe: Responsible for operating and maintaining the café (staff lounge) and canteen. Must be able to keep accurate records of camper visits to the canteen by cabin, inventory records, and ordering of supplies for the canteen. Would also assist in the summer camp office with basic office responsibilities. Organizational skills are a must in this position.
Summer Camp Secretary: Preferably at least 18 years old. This position will be responsible to manage the program office in an organized and efficient way. This includes critical tasks during camper registration, the management of all USDA Summer Food Service paperwork , producing schedules, programs, and rosters for both cabin and activity groups. The Camp Secretary will also handle phone calls, checking in parents and other guests, and be required to attend and support other camp activities and programs.
